1.Invest in some packing cubes
I don’t know about you, but I always have this problem. On the first day of my trip, my neatly packed case explodes into a mess. When you’re hustling about all day, your luggage becomes messier and messier. This makes it much harder to find your stuff, and much more likely that things will go missing- potentially messing up your trip. I found out about these things called packing cubes. They’re a super simple concept that can save you a lot of hassle. Packing cubes are small containers made of fabric- usually in a rectangular shape. They allow you to maximize space in your bag and lets you organize your clothes into t-shirts/ pants/ underwear. This prevents the all-too-common explosion of clothes and lets you find items in a pinch.
2. Don’t forget a portable charger
Our phones are very often our number 1 travel buddy. We use them to navigate unknown streets using google maps, link up with fellow travelers and take loads of pics of our journey. All of these things drain a phone’s battery- big time. There’s nothing worse than your phone dying when you need to find your way home- or missing out on that perfect shot. A portable charger is a small but very worthwhile investment for travel. You can get a decent portable charger for around $10 and you’ll be able to charge your important device wherever you are.
3.Wake up early to avoid crowds
Some of the most beautiful, life-changing sights in the world can be completely ruined by crowds of tourists blocking the view, swinging about selfie sticks and bringing noise pollution. By waking up early, you’re more likely to avoid the crowds and experience popular tourist attractions the way they were meant to be seen. You know what they say, the early bird catches the worm.
4. Don’t rely fully on your phone
Whilst your phone is an amazing tool, it could always run out of battery, break or become lost. If you haven’t prepared- this could mean losing your hotel address, flight details or even access to money. Make sure you have important addresses, dates, and events all written down on paper. That way, if your phone dies, you aren’t completely lost. Keep both a debit card and cash- instead of relying on Apple/Samsung pay. These are easy steps that you can take to prevent small mistakes from turning into big ones.
5. Bring your own water bottle
This is a tip that can save you a lot of money in the long run. Water in popular tourist areas can cost a pretty penny, and buying multiple bottles a day while you’re out and about can add up. By bringing your own bottle, you should be able to fill it up for free at the hotel or public bathroom. Make sure that the water is safe to drink first, though. Not only will this make your budget go longer- it’s good for the environment, too!
6.Separate your money
Don’t keep the entirety of your travel savings in one bag or purse. That’s a recipe for disaster and if you lose that one bag- all of your money is gone. It’s a good idea to separate your money. Put some cash in one bag, some in another, keep some in the hotel and keep some in your pocket. That way, losing one item (which is really easy to do) doesn’t end up in a canceled trip. The same goes for all of your valuables- don’t keep all of your high-value items in one place.
